Foliar Feeding Cotton
نویسندگان
چکیده
There seems to be conflicting information about foliar fertilizers and their timing of application to cotton. Much of the confusion lies in the variety of fertilizer products available. A cotton fanner now has a choice of applying foliar fertilizers (according to fertilizer labels) beginning at the first true leaf stage and continuing until defoliation. This newsletter will focus on available infonnation about foliar fertilizers: when and how they may be best used to maximize economic returns.

Effect of Foliar Application of Urea with N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) on the Yield of Cotton
Foliar fertilization with nitrogen (N) is used to supplement soil N application in order to meet the high N requirements of crops (Oosterhuis and Weir, 2010). Urea is the most common foliar N source in cotton, due to its relatively low toxicity, quick absorption, and low cost (Maples and Baker, 1993; McConnell et al., 1998; Oosterhuis and Bondada, 2001). However, in the literature reports of yi...
متن کاملFoliar washoff potential and simulated surface runoff losses of trifloxysulfuron in cotton.
The surface runoff potential of trifloxysulfuron {N-[(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl)carbamoyl]-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoy)-pyridin-2-sulfonamide sodium salt} in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) production systems has not been evaluated. The objectives of this study were to (i) determine sorption/desorption coefficients for trifloxysulfuron; (ii) quantify foliar washoff of trifloxysulfuron when applied...
متن کاملAssessment of the Slow-Release Nitrogen Foliar Fertilizer Nitamin® in Comparison to Foliar Urea and Soil-Applied Nitrogen to the Yield of Field-Grown Cotton (Gossypium Hirsutum, L.)
Effective nitrogen (N) management in cotton production is essential in order to achieve proper growth and development. However, soil-incorporated N can undergo a series of chemical conversions along with numerous loss mechanisms (leaching, volatilization and denitrification) that can make N unavailable to the plant. In addition, soil-incorporated N has faced much scrutiny over the years for its...
متن کاملYield, Growth and Physiology of Trimaxtm Treated Cotton
The active ingredient of TrimaxTM insecticide is Imidacloprid. This insecticide provides control of the major sucking/piercing insects of cotton. In addition, there have been anecdotal reports of yield and growth enhancement in cotton after multiple foliar applications of Trimax. However, the information on the mode of action of the growth-and-yield enhancement properties imposed by Trimax is l...
متن کاملInfluence of Potassium Foliar Application on Cotton Yield (Gossypium barbadense L.) under Saline Condition
There is a lack of sufficient information on cotton responses to time and amount of foliar application of potassium (K) under salt stress environment, The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of potassium (as Solupotasse 50% K2O and 18% S) rate and application time on yield and yield components of cotton under saline field condition. A factorial experiment based on randomized ...
